FAQ

What is Gathr?

Gathr Films is a new way of seeing the films you want in your local theater, we call this Theatrical On Demand. Gathr provides movie goers the opportunity to book Gathr Films into movie theaters across the country. But it will only come to your community if enough people reserve tickets to see it. After you submit a request on Gathr, you’ll receive your own personal screening webpage where all of your friends can easily reserve tickets to the film. If you get enough people, your screening “tips” and the film comes to your community.

How do Gathr screenings happen?

Gathr screenings happen when a minimum number of people reserve tickets before a predetermined expiration date. We call this “tipping” the screening. On every screening page, you’ll find an update that shows you the number of current reservations, the number of additional reservations needed to tip the screening, as well as how much time remains before that screening request expires. When enough people reserve tickets to a screening before time expires, the screening takes place. If the minimum number of reservations is not met, the screening does not take place and nobody is charged.

Who can request a Gathr screening?

You can! Anyone can request to host a screening, making them a Movie Captain. Simply Request the film you want and indicate when and where you want to see it. Gathr will then work to confirm the request and then a page for your screening request becomes live on the gathr.us site. Whether you’re an individual, a social club, or a theater, you can request a screening. It’s fun, simple, and only takes a few minutes.

What can you do to make my screening happen?

We’ve prepared all kinds of tools and resources to help you promote and tip your screening, which you can find in this Field Guide

What is the difference between reserving a ticket and purchasing a ticket?

When a screening of your movie has not been “tipped,” your option is to reserve a ticket by pre-authorizing your credit card. When a movie has been “tipped”, your ticket purchase will be processed immediately.

When will your credit card be charged?

Your credit card will only be charged once your screening has met the minimum number of reservations and has been tipped.

How do I know when I’m officially a Movie Captain?

When you first sign up, you’ll receive a notice from Gathr that your screening request has been received and is being processed.

What if I don’t want to be a Movie Captain, but I want to see the film?

If you don’t want to become a Movie Captain but you are still interested in seeing the movie, click on the Notify Me button under the films screening page to be alerted to screenings in your area.

How long will it take to confirm a theater and date for my screening?

Many theaters and dates will be confirmed within a couple days. However, others take a little more effort to lock down. Depending on the theater, this can take up to three weeks.

Why isn’t the screening request granted right away?

In some instances we need to check with multiple theaters to confirm availability for the date you have requested.

Why do I have to list multiple venues and dates?

All screenings are subject to venue or theater availability. The theater that you list as your first choice might have an event already scheduled for the date you have selected. Providing us with multiple venue and date options gives you a better chance of getting your screening confirmed earlier.

How many people does it take to book or “tip” a screening?

The number of people it takes to “tip” a screening varies, depending on the size of the theater and the day of the week your screening is being held. Before your screening is confirmed, the default tipping point will be 100 reservations. This may update based on your screening location. On average, a weeknight screening will require 40-80 reservations to tip, and a weekend screening may need a few more.

How much time do I have to fill my screening?

We default the countdown clock to 14 days before your screening, and this will change once the theater is confirmed. So, the earlier you set up your screening, the more time you will have to tip it! That’s because the amount of time you have to tip your screening simply depends on your preferred screening date

How will I know when I’ve tipped my screening?

You will receive an email from Gathr letting you know that your screening has tipped.  And then it’s time to keep going  the next step is to sell out your screening.

How much will tickets to my screening cost?

Ticket pricing varies and will be included in the email you receive confirming your screening request. Typically tickets are $10, but it depends on your theater choice.

Can I cancel or get a refund on my ticket?

Unfortunately, Gathr cannot provide refunds once the screening has tipped, and Gathr’s purchase policy is that all sales are final.

When I reserve a ticket to the screening, when is my credit card charged?

You will not be charged until the screening has “tipped.”

How do I print tickets?

Once your screening “tips”, you’ll be emailed about how to print your tickets. You can also print your tickets by going to the Gathr homepage and clicking on “Print My Tickets” and entering your email and the last 4 digits of your credit card.

Who will collect the tickets?

Usually the theater box office will collect tickets, but in some cases, the theater may ask the captain to help out. We recommend reaching out to your theater manager to discuss logistical details.
